sidux new install

Postby nanotracker on Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:09 pm

I installed aldrin and dep files with apt-get. Worked great last night. But today I get this message.
AssertionError: got empty instance for classid 'aldrin.core.wavetablepanel'. recursive loop?

Is there a way to uninstall using apt-get and then reinstall to fix config files? Just a guess.
Any directions would be greatly appreciated.
Can wait to use this daw again sounds awsome.

I'm not too sure, but this could be a problem with a path you entered in the wavetable.
Then you should maybe try to rename /home/your_username/.aldrin and retart aldrin see what happens...

When you say rename home/scott/.aldrin do you mean give it a new name?
Maybe I should ask how to rename it.

Pardon the dumb question I'm about half a step up from absolute noob.

Well since I'm asking dumb questions. Would it be possible to compile aldrin to run on x86_64 or would that require a major overhaul? My goal, someday is to have a puppy linux sized x64 linux with a 64bit native tracker. Just dreaming maybe.

details of the error report

Postby nanotracker on Tue Sep 29, 2009 6:39 pm

An exception (AssertionError) occurred
got empty instance for classid 'aldrin.core.wavetablepanel'. recursive loop?

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/aldrin/components/eventbus.py", line 148, in __call__
result = func(*fargs) or result

Then in a different window.

Cannot create a consistent method resolution
order (MRO) for bases Buildable, GInterface, gtk.FileChooserEmbed, ImplementorIface, Orientable

I thought some more detail could help shed light on the error. It's (greek)linux to me.
Thanks

I renamed .aldrin

Postby nanotracker on Tue Sep 29, 2009 6:44 pm

and it made a brand new .aldrin in its place
also I had a look in the .aldrin folder and the text settings.cfg say
[Global]
theme =

is that right?

cool

next I went to usr/bin and found aldrin-combrowser
and lo and behold... python console popped up (I'm liking this program more and more)
next under wavetable panel I found method get_wavetable_paths
well it's cool but I don't know how to use it.

aldrin-combo-browser is just one component, it doesn't launch the full application. I cannot tell you much more as I'm no dev either.
You should have something called /usr/bin/aldrin that you can launch from the command line or from the Debian menu (or whatever provided by Sidux).
If not, there's most likely something wrong with your installation.
If the aldrin package comes from the Sidux repositories, you should report it devs.
Otherwise, Aldrin is reputed to be compilable on 64 bit hosts, but I never tested it...
