Status?

Hi everyone,

Just checking back to see what's happening with Aldrin at the moment. Who are the lead developers? Is Paniq still around?

Best,

James

Seems I can't get Aldrin to start at the moment - I get hit by this error which is way over my head!

I submitted it as a bug.

/usr/local/share/aldrin/components/driver.py:150:#0: system [OI]
/usr/local/share/aldrin/components/driver.py:177:best input/output pick:
/usr/local/share/aldrin/components/driver.py:178:system / system

/usr/local/share/aldrin/components/mainwindow.py:397:no history.
TypeError: Cannot create a consistent method resolution

Any ideas what's happening here??

Hah!

turns out its a buggy pygtk version for Debian (2.10.6-1).

Upgraded the python-gtk2 package and startup occurs as expected!

Hi stone1,

I've been following Aldrin and submitting patches for 2-3 months now. Unfortunately, paniq stopped working on Aldrin, he's now busy with Halebopp (http://www.largemind.com/, http://bitbucket.org/paniq/halebopp/), a different audio application. tzhau and jmmcd have been contributing to Aldrin since paniq left, but last changes from tzhau are from 2 months ago. In the issue tracker there are a growing number of patches and issues unreviewed.

Moreover, calvin is working on a (yet another) rewrite of Armstrong (the library that Aldrin depends on), and when he finishes most of Aldrin will need to be rewritten too. You can track the calvin's progress on the rewrite here: http://anders-e.com/buze/log/ Maybe work on Aldrin has stopped while this rewrite finishes but no one has confirmed this.

I just hope someone (paniq, tzhau?) explains their plans for Aldrin, and if they are unable or unwilling to continue working on it, maybe appoints a new lead developer.

Cheers,

Victor

Good day

The Mars release is intended as a bit of a rest stop, as paniq went off to find his way in other directions, and as a good place to figure out where we are going.

I've personally found the backend to be a limiting factor and probably in need of some reworking.
So it is either take ownership of the current backend, or wait and see what calvin is doing with the new armstrong and then port aldrin to that.

Pieter

Now all is clear, let's wait to see what happens with Armstrong's rewrite.

Thanks for the explanation, Peter.

Hi Stone1 and Victor,

Calvin posted some docs on the new Armstrong architecture:
http://anders-e.com/buze/armstrong/

+ a Buze commit log:
http://anders-e.com/buze/log/

as you will see, it looks very promising ;)
